Sons (now Boosey &amp; Hawkes) in London.\u00a0 On these, it was said, the Band made favourable progress.\u00a0 Later that year, following repeated requests of supporters in the town, it was decided to change the name to <strong>The Tilbury Town Band<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>February 1922 saw a contest for local bands at Grays.\u00a0 Wishing to gain a conductor with contest experience, Mr. G Nicholls of Grays Temperance Band was engaged.\u00a0 After five weeks of tuition, the Band mounted the contesting platform for the first time, securing second prize and two medals.\u00a0 Following this success, the Band entered the National Brass Band Championship of Great Britain, held at The Crystal Palace.\u00a0 By the next year they secured third prize in the Junior B Section having competed against twenty seven bands from all over the British Isles.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>World War II \u2013 Suspension and a New Home<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Golden Jubilee of The Tilbury Band, 1969 (Source: Tilbury Band Archive)<\/p>\n<p>During World War II, the Band\u2019s activities were suspended, but it was quickly re-formed after peace was declared in 1945.\u00a0 Three years later the Band purchased an old Salvation Army hall in Dock Road, Tilbury for \u00a3400.\u00a0 This became the new Band Headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>In the 1960s the Band changed name again to its present name \u2013 \u201c<strong>The Tilbury Band<\/strong>\u201d.\u00a0 In 1976 the Band Hall was demolished to make way for a purpose built headquarters at a cost of \u00a322,000.\u00a0 This hall continues to be the Band\u2019s much loved home.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Recent History<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In March 2024 the hard-work of the Band was acknowledged with a third place at the Regional Festival of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, securing a place at the National Finals in September, and a promotion from 2025 into the First Section.<\/p>\n<p>On 23rd July 2024 the Band became a Registered Charity (number 1209239).<\/p>\n<p>Today the Band continues to thrive, attracting talented players from both the local area and further afield and competes and performs at concerts and events throughout the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Beginnings On 28th May 1919, at a meeting of the Tilbury Branch of the National Union of Railwaymen, it was agreed to form a brass band.\u00a0 By 1st July the Tilbury Railwaymen\u2019s Band had called its first meeting and <a class=\"more-link\" href=\"http:\/\/tilburyband.co.uk\/?page_id=29\">Read More &#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":2,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-29","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/tilburyband.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/29","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/tilburyband.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/tilburyband.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/tilburyband.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/tilburyband.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=29"}],"version-history":[{"count":9,"href":"http:\/\/tilburyband.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/29\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":796,"href":"http:\/\/tilburyband.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/29\/revisions\/796"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/tilburyband.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=29"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
